3/LUX/3/024 Ministère de l’Aménagement du Territoire (L) en Staatliches Amt für Wasser- und Abfallwirtschaft Trier (BRD)

Grenzüberschreitender Atlas der Überschwemmungsgebiete im Einzugsgebiet der Mosel

The project involves mapping areas prone to the risk of flooding in part of the Mosel and her tributaries. The data gathered via air photography altitude and hydraulic models should lead to a useful instrument for spatial planners. This is a transnational project of Luxembourg and Germany. As stated, the results will be used as SPI (Spatial Planning Instrument). However, the question of whether this will suffice from the point of view of reduction of flood risk should be answered also.

Grenzüberschreitende Raumordnungsinitiative zur Verbesserung des natürlichen Wasserrückhaltes und zur ökologischen Aufwertung der Auengebiete im Einzugsgebiet der Sauer

The project is jointly set up by Luxembourg (lead) and Germany. Its intentions are to develop a Spatial Planning concept for the Saar area, so that natural retention and ecology may be improved at the same time. The application concerns the study only. Possibly measures found effective in the study may be effectuated by realisation later. Improvement of Spatial Planning Instruments in areas with a high flooding risk.

1/LUX/2/058 Gemeinde Beaufort

Alternative, naturnahe Regenwasserbewirtschaftung in Beaufort

This project aims at assuring that the concept of village development is well managed and prepared to integrate the sustainable standards. The specific objectives of this entails firstly the separation, collection and discharge of surface and waste water, along with replenishment of the groundwater; secondly, reduction of the high water peak in the flowing water; and as last relief for the respective improvement of cleaning capability of the existing sewage treatment plant.

1/LUX/1/129 Commune de Steinsel et de Walferdange

Renaturation de l’Alzette et de ses affluents à Steinsel et Walferderdange

In 1993 and 1995 the Alzette River flooded, causing major damage to property within the municipal areas of Walferdange and Steinsel. As a result, the authorities embarked on a programme to identify and implement measures to minimise similar repercussions in the future. The objectives of the project are: improvement of the flood situation in inhabited areas by increasing the capacity for high water retention in non-critical areas, and thus reducing the extent of flooding in the inhabited areas; ecological stabilisation of the watercourse with reinforcement of natural metabolisms; enrichment of the site from a landscape point of view by creating an urban relief zone with recreational character; and promotion of the educational value of the site by encouraging the discovery and understanding of the aquatic environment and its associated ecosystems. The effects will be (among others) reduction of damage to property, risk of accident and inconvenience to inhabitants (accessibility). The new configuration will lead to water flow rates favourable to the development of aquatic life and avoid damage due to destructive erosion.

Gestion des crues de l’Attert et de leur influence sur les crues de la Sûre

The two main objectives are to 1) increase the capacity of retention on the Attert's basin in case of high water in order to decrease the risk of flood on the Sûre downstream Ettelbruck; 2) find a balance between 'hard' measures (barriers, embankments) and 'soft' measures (renaturation, natural retention).
